ART THERAPY
Art therapy combines visual art and psychotherapy in a creative process that uses the created image as source for self-exploration and understanding. Art therapy utilizes art to express inner feelings and emotions.
For example: One directive might be to draw a representation of the face you show the world on one side of a paper and then what you hide within, on the flip side. This gets people in touch with and talking about their inner feelings. It helps them recognize and get through their barriers. Our deepest thoughts and feelings often reach expression in images rather than in words. Art therapy can help to safely channel feelings and inner conflicts into a visual form. Then the inner conflict can be resolved and integrated within a reparative creative process.
